Kennesaw State University Student Recreation & Activities Center

Kennesaw State University Student Recreation & Activities Center Building

Project Goals

The expansion and renovation of the KSU Student Recreation and Activities Center (SRAC) was essential to accommodate the university’s rapid growth in enrollment. Furthermore, the project needed to be completed as a phased construction project to keep the existing facility operational throughout the 18-month construction period.

Our Solution

The centerpiece of the facility is a 300-foot long, two-story fitness atrium that is integrated into an existing campus pedestrian path. The atrium is glazed on three sides, thus requiring innovative incorporation of acoustically absorptive materials to control reverberation. The facility also features a renovated multi-activity court, large four-court basketball venue with upper-level jogging track, eight-lane indoor pool, racquetball courts, weight and fitness areas, group exercise studios, and offices. The multitude of use types required the full complement of acoustic design services to achieve a successful end result which helped to earn it the 2016 ACEC Engineering Excellence Award.
